Camera?

I really need a new camera.  I soooo want a slr but will have to go with a point and shoot for price reasons. :(   Any suggestions?   I want something with the ability to get great close ups and with as little wait time as possible.  I just feel that I am missing out on my girl's everyday activities by not having a good camera. I so want time to slow down.  She is growing up way to fast for this momma!  I look back now and see how fast time went by with my son but at the time I really didn't notice.  Anyone else think it is an age thing?
