Nashville Zoo at Grassmere

Our first animals of the day were the birds (not Neenas' favorite...... he he).

Hyacinth Macaw

We spent a long time looking at the Meerkat Pups while digging burrows.  The Meerkats are native to Botswana and South Africa.

Petting Zoo

Iza was disappointed that she did not get to ride a camel.  No animal rides at the Nashville Zoo. :(  She loved petting the camels anyways.

Flamingo Lagoon looked like a tropical paradise.   With pink feathers, curvy necks and long legs, the Caribbean flamingos were surrounded by an oasis green vegetation and winding waterways.  We were able to get a up-close view of the birds. Unfortunately my pictures do not do the area justice.

No chimpanzees but there were monkeys
Gibbon Islands

Siamang from Sumatra and Malay Peninsula

Schmidt’s Guenon

Southern Cassowary

Ring-tailed Lemur

Red Pandas

Clouded Leopard

Gold fish pond.....I think

Bengal Tiger

Iza is looking at the zebras here.  I forgot to get a picture of the zebras. Actually I was too busy trying to get a really good picture of Izabel.  It is so hard it seems she never smiles when the camera is out.

Grassmere Historic Home

The Croft Home was built in 1810, it is the centerpiece of the Grassmere Historic Farm and guided tours were given. I love looking at historical houses. The guides told the history of the property, stories from the five generations who lived there, and how the Zoo came to be located on the land.  After touring the home, you can explore the rest of the farm grounds, including the three-tier heirloom garden and the family cemetery. The grounds are beautiful!  Unfortunately we had to leave the house tour early.  Izabel was tired and very board. I hope to get to go back another time and finish the tour.

Izabel  "adopted" a giraffe while at the zoo.  It is very cute.  I did not however get a good picture of it.

We were outside walking around while Neena finished the tour.  We played on the veranda that surrounded the house. Izabel was getting really tired of the photos by this time.  :(

After viewing the Crane House we viewed the largest mammals the zoo had at the time. First stop the African Elephants.

The last animal of the day was the giraffes.  We had been looking for them all day since Izabel was dressed to match them.

Of course we had to go back to the playground area before leaving the zoo.  Iza loved it.  I believe the playground here is the nicest at any zoo we have been to.
